Books Response

Mikayla Minnich wrote a post on the books lecture. I agree with her. I'm not as big of a reader as I should be, but this lecture really grabbed my attention. Books have impacted our lives so much. She explains what modern day would be like without books which was good because it further informed me about books and their history. I liked this post because it wasn't a broad subject she was writing it on it was specific and straight to the point. So I applaud Mikayla on her behalf for writing a well written post.

Recordings Response

I love listening music, so why not do a post about my opinion on the recordings lecture. Recordings have been around for a long time. I didn't know about the earlier recording devices like Edison's. I thought it was cool that Edison came up with this idea because it led up to today's modern day inventions. Music has a purpose to get a message out whether it's news or nonsense. Bards used to go from town to town sharing news through song. Music helps memorization.  The people could remember the tune and lyrics rather than a long message. When recordings came along you didn't have to be present to listen to the message. Berliner made recordings a mass medium. It helped the nation become unified because most of the population could listen to the same thing. This also softened the line between the wealthy and poor. Wealthy people weren't the only people who could enjoy a strings performance for example. Recordings were cheap because they were duplicable once Berliner invented the gramophone. Music can be used for many purposes that's why it's such a nifty tool. Recordings helped the music industry become more accessible to a variety of people.

Media Critique: Matt Bevin Attacks Mitch McConnell On Obamacare, Aligns Himself With Senate Hostage Takers

This article is about Matt Bevin the candidate for U.S. Senate. Bevin has attacked Mitch McConnell for not taking a strong stand against Obamacare. McConnell is a Republican so we obviously know where he stands, but Bevin, also a Republican, is strongly criticizing McConnell for this. The article takes a very liberal stand, using "Senate Hostage Takers" in the heading. The article is very negative toward the Republican candidates. The journalist is not being inclusive. The article portrays this political party in a negative way. The journalist is slamming Bevin for supporting a government shutdown as a means of defunding Obamacare. The journalist is being non-biased to McConnell because the journalist knows that McConnell is trying to stay out of the argument. According to the journalist, McConnell is staying out of it because of his upcoming primary race. The journalist writes, "Bevin is the type who flat out doesn't believe that courting -- or even causing -- a default is a bad thing." This statement from the article is not a verified fact. This comes from the journalist's opinion. The journalist violated these principles and yardsticks; truth, loyalty, verification, independence, inclusive, and fairness. The news company also needs to have an obligation to avoid publishing articles such as this. The editor should've helped the journalist remove their opinion, so the article was more factual.

Hot-Cool Model Response

Olivia Loy wrote one of her posts about binary models. I read most people's blogs about the subject because I didn't quite fully understand the subject. I stumbled upon Olivia's and I thought it was well thought out. The post is specifically about the hot-cool model. Olivia used examples of hot and cool medias which I found very helpful. If someone didn't know anything about the hot-cool model I would show them this post and they would understand it fully after. The post is not like a long boring response it's entertaining and it makes me want to learn more about the subject. It's interesting how she gives her opinion on how books might demassify in the near future and the future of television. I personally agree with her because technology has become such a common thing to use nowadays. Books can be read on almost any device.

9/11 Photographers Response

9/11 is a very important date in the U.S. It is a tragic date, yet very important in our nation. It teaches us not to repeat history. The most fascinating part I learned about it was how photography documented the attack. The photographers risked their lives to get amazing photographs. This attack was a part of our history and we should document as much as we can to make sure people remember what a terrible event this was. This shows the importance of photography and photojournalism because it helps us remember and it helps us to be informed about our history as the United States. This helps give the audience an image in their mind that they can remember rather than reading an article and memorizing it. As said before the pictures give you an image you can visualize some articles don't give you a clear enough visualization of what is going on or what went on. This event was big for photographers they were expected to document the attack because it affected the nation as a whole. The attack caused the U.S. to make changes in security that we use currently.

Mass Communication Response

I found the entire topic of mass communication interesting. I found the models the most interesting though because I didn't know anything about them. I knew a little bit about monopolies from my history class last year, but not the types; vertical and horizontal. The idea of conglomeration was interesting too. The result of when conglomeration occurs was shocking. Just imagining the world with a superior company and no diverse company is bad. I didn't know that it would have a hard and direct impact on us. A lot of the nation would be unemployed and our economy would suffer because there would be less jobs. That is not a good future of the U.S. I also thought it was strange that some business would want to demassify.

The History of Newspapers Response

I really enjoyed the lecture about Newspapers. I didn't know much about the format of newspapers and the history. I found the formatting of an article to be  the most interesting in the newspaper lecture. When I read the newspaper I didn't really noticed that the most important news was at the beginning. I just figured that the whole article was important, including details. The Inverted Pyramid style of writing has helped me learn how to write a correct article. I thought the reason behind why journalists or reporters had to use this style was smart and clever. I don't think I would be able to come up with that idea. The part I also found interesting was the case on John Peter Zenger's newspaper. I learned that the truth is the most important and ultimate defense and from where it originated. I thought it was amazing how 1 person's newspaper led to the change of modern day news such as the freedom of press.
